A new way to create media with AI

FilmMovie Studio is a desktop app that works like an AI director: you describe an idea in your own words and the app walks you, step by step, from script to images to video to audio and a final export. Everything happens on one freeform canvas and is saved locally on your disk. In this guide we'll tour the whole interface and run one complete loop, so you know where every piece lives.

What you'll need

  • FilmMovie Studio installed (macOS or Windows).
  • At least one generation provider configured in Settings (a kie.ai or deAPI key).
  • An idea for one short scene — a single sentence is enough.

Step by step

  1. 1

Open the Launchpad and create a project

When the app starts you land on the Launchpad — a dashboard of recent projects. Click "New project" at the top right, name it (e.g. "First test") and confirm. The Workspace opens.

Tip: Every project is saved locally to SQLite, so your cards and media stay available after a restart — no expiring URLs.

Get your bearings in the Workspace

The Workspace has three main parts: the Canvas with cards on the left, the chat panel on the right where you talk to the AI, and browser-style project tabs across the top. Ignore the Timeline for now — it appears later.

    Type your idea into chat

In the chat box, type a simple sentence, e.g. "Create a short shot of a sunset over the sea". You don't need commands — just describe what you want. For a specific workflow, pick a skill icon, e.g. /image-creator, or let the app choose one.

Tip: Describe the idea, not the steps. The app reads the skill's workflow and calls the right tools itself.

Watch cards appear on the canvas

The AI gets to work and cards drop onto the canvas — text, image or video. While generating, a card first shimmers (loading), then fills with the result. You can drag cards, resize them and connect them.

Edit a card from its context menu

Right-click a card. A menu appears with options: remix, copy, add to chat, add to timeline, color grade or view fullscreen. This is your main way to work with individual pieces of media.

Open the timeline and assemble clips

Once you have video or audio, open the timeline (it docks at the bottom). Add cards to it via the context menu or by dragging. The timeline has tracks for video, dialogue, music, SFX and subtitles; you can trim and reorder clips.

    Render a finished MP4

When you're happy with the timeline, click "Render". Using ffmpeg, the app stitches the clips (with crossfades) into a single MP4 and drops a "Final render" card on the canvas. You'll find the file saved locally in the project folder.

Tip: Render is the loop's terminal step. To make changes, edit the cards or the timeline and render again.

What you get

You've run the app's whole loop: from an empty project through an idea in chat, cards on the canvas and a timeline, to a finished MP4 saved locally. This same pattern — describe the idea → watch the canvas → assemble the timeline → render — applies to every more advanced skill in the next guides.

Pro tips

  • Media is always downloaded locally, so a project works offline and links never expire.
  • Double-click empty canvas to manually create a new node (text, image, video, audio, table).
  • For more complex skills the app pauses at a "creative gate" and waits for your confirmation.
