A generated video rarely lands at exactly the right length — usually it carries a few extra seconds before or after the shot you want. In this guide we'll use /clip-export to cut just the part you need out of a single video card and export it as a standalone clip. The whole flow is about trimming, not generating: we work with media you already have on the canvas.
What you'll need
- A project open in FilmMovie Studio with at least one video card on the canvas.
- A video you want to shorten — a clear idea of where the clip should start and end.
- No provider needed: trimming and rendering run locally through ffmpeg.
Step by step
- 1
Find the video card on the canvas
In the Workspace, locate the video card you want to shorten on the Canvas. Click it once to select it — a frame highlights around the card.

Open the /clip-export command
In the chat panel on the right, type /clip-export and pick it from the skill list. The app inventories the project's media and confirms which videos it can trim. Just tell it which card you mean.

Tip: If there's no video on the canvas, /clip-export warns you and suggests running a generation skill first (e.g. a quick video). - 3
Bring up trimming from the context menu
Right-click the video card and choose "Clip" from the menu. A trim bar opens with a preview of the video and two handles at the ends — one for the start, one for the end.

Set the in and out points by dragging the handles
Drag the left handle inward until the lead-in before your first frame is gone, and the right handle inward until you've cut the trailing overhang. The selected span stays highlighted; the time before and after it is discarded.

Tip: The start and end timecodes show right above the bar — you can tune the selection to a tenth of a second. - 5
Preview the selection and fine-tune
Press play and check that the clip starts and ends exactly where you want. Nudge the handles again if needed. When you're happy, confirm the trim — a new, shortened video card is created.

Add the clip to the timeline
Right-click the trimmed card and choose "Add to timeline". The Timeline docks at the bottom and the clip lands on the video track. This is where you confirm the final length and order.

Render and export the clip
With just your trimmed clip on the timeline, click "Render". The app renders one MP4 through ffmpeg and drops a "Final render" card on the canvas. From the Export menu you can also get a portable project bundle and an SRT subtitle file.

Tip: You can re-render: every timeline tweak makes a fresh "Final render" card while the old ones are kept.
What you get
From a longer generated video you now have a precisely trimmed clip that starts and ends where you want, rendered to a standalone MP4 and saved locally in the project folder. The original card stays untouched, so you can always go back and trim a different section.
Pro tips
- Trimming is non-destructive: a new card is created and the original video on the canvas stays unchanged.
- For longer shots, ask /clip-export to detect scenes — it helps you find the strongest segment before trimming.
- For a hard cut, tune the handles by the timecodes; for a smooth transition, leave a little margin at the ends.
